Professionalism and Distress in Youth

September 29, 2019

The present era is the era of professionalism in which everyone wants to be perfect and there is demand only for the perfect one. A decimal lack in your ability and you will be thrown out of the competition world. This put tremendous pressure on the population to cross that line where they will be in a safe zone and according to the demand of the economy. Race of success binds the exploration of creativity of this generation.

Merit is everything

Today a child or a person’s ability is measured by its grade in education, training, and any other activity. Result of this is the adaptation for this culture. The pressure was pilled from the very first day of school of a three-year-old child who even doesn’t know what merit is and we taught him/her to score good and top even the pre-class, In the age of playing on the back of his/her father he/she carries the load of bags on his/her back and the pressure of performing well. After some grades, they were bombarded with books syllabus and private tuitions. They have no time to explore outside and remain buried in the pressure to top every exam (Even score more then sharma ji ka ladka). To get into higher education you need to cross the boundary ‘not by four but by six ‘and no less than six is accepted to get premier institute.

Real race begins here where everyone wants to see his child in IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, NLU, so on and so forth. Some do well and some end there life because they are not as per standard. As per the report, more than 15 students killed themselves in Kota Rajasthan. The troll does not stop here and the struggle begins for jobs, As per the NSSO, the data unemployment rate is a 45-year high. One can easily notice this data by visiting any student area across the nation, for reference Mukharjeenagar, karol bagh, Laxmi Nagar (Delhi) you will see student carrying bundles of hopes to get into services from past many years.

The case for ‘9 to 5’ jobs is also the same. It is only a notion of  ‘9 to 5’ else it is 24*7. Targets, clients, timely work, formals, appraisals, promotion, and the list continues but the demand will never be going to end.

Killing Creativity

The pressure of being a professional in one’s work kills the creativity of people, as they have no time for themselves to think of other work if they try they can’t do so because they have to compete in the market, a slight downgrade in your merit and you will be replaced. This creates a vicious cycle of pressure transferring to the next generation as parents have no time for their child to make him explore other option than studying and also child has always in his mind to score well. Outdoor activities of children are declining and they find their modern gadgets as better substitutes.

Need Attention

This change is really harming the human capital. Humans are performing like a machine without any social life thinking only how to get perfect in work kills another potential as well. When a happy person does any work with less pressure and enjoys the work he will perform well. This professionalism is piling up pressure on youths and this creates distress on them as they are not able to perform their work as per their wish and forced to some work they do not like. Addressing the distress in today’s youth is the demand of the time, they are the building block of human capital for the future world.

A HAPPY PERSON CAN CONTRIBUTE MORE THAN ONE WHO IS FORCED TO BE HAPPY.

Previously merit defines the growth of child, nowadays merit is a social symbol for parents. The competition of scoring high merit though any option increased unemployment too.
