Social distancing -the need of the hour
“Social distancing -the need of the hour”
The novel coronavirus or COVID -19 has been declared “pandemic” by the WHO. This virus has claimed over 35000 lives abd 850000 people are infected globally. As of now 195 countries of the world are in clutches of this deadly virus. This data is enough to convey the destructive nature of this global emegency and the numbers are increasing at an alarming rate
Even after painstaking process of long researches and tests the doctors, scientists, virologists, have not been successful in finding remedy to this virulent infection.
We know that this virus was first spread in Wuhan in Hubei province of China but it’s ‘source’ where the virus came from is still under the clouds of doubt. So right now the whole world is fighting against a highly destructive enemy with no weapon of medication in hand and the fact that it is not visible with naked eyes and also that it spreads from one person to another makes the battle extremely difficult. The only option available to us is to prevent the spread of this infection and to prevent the transmission is to maintain ‘social-distancing’.
Social distancing is a tool public health officials recommend to slow the spread of a disease that is being passed from person to person . Simply put, it means that people stay far enough away from each other so that the coronavirus or any other pathogen can’t spread from one person to another. In this case the ideal social distance is six feet or two metres away from other people.
Social distancing is very important as asymptomatic cases may transmit the virus as many people who may have contracted the virus may be unaware about it and they have the potential to spread it to large number of people whom they come in contact with . This may be because people infected with the virus may develop symptoms much later that is after the incubation period of atleast 14 days.
Another reason as to why social distancing is must because it is the only way to break the chain of contagion . This means that the spread of the virus is to be limited and this can be done by limiting the social contract ,by distancing yourself from others ,especially those in high risk caregories, you’re doing your part by minimizing the likelihood of spreading the virus to other’s .This can help flatten the curve that is to slow the rate of spread of a virus. It’s important to do our best to flatten the curve, because too many people getting sick at the same time can overwhelm hospitals and healthcare facilities and given the huge population of India it will be a very tough call to anticipate such critical condition.
Hence we all should pledge not to cross our thresholds until and unless it is inevitable.
So stay home ,stay safe guys!
