Violence Against Women

General
November 27, 2019

Every year 25 November mark as ” International Day for the elimination of violence against women”. Why we need to mark such days?…. Yes you get it right because from very part harassment of women is prevailing in our society and the problem is that even today violence marks its presence in one form or other.

As per the recent NCRB Report, a total of 3,59,849 cases were reported against women in 2017. In comparison, in 2016, 3.38 lakh cases of crime were registered against women, while 3.2 lakh cases were recorded in 2015. The number of cases reported has increased. Looking at the stats picture in clear please note this is reported cases forget about which is not reported.

What it is?

Crime against women constitute murder, rape, dowry death, acid attack, domestic violence, emotional torture, cruelty against women, kidnapping now new form also can be included like blackmailing on the internet, misuse of the picture and personal information illegal stocking.

As per the report of NCRB cruelty against women is highest by her husband and close relatives and the previous report highlight that 98% of rape reported is by his close family members and friends.

Increasing number…

Moving towards a society where we treat both male and female equal. Is it possible for a girl child to walk side by side with her counterpart and compete equally with a load of pressure and mental harassment on her shoulder?

Today she faces it in every walk of her life either at home, school, college, public place, and working space. Most of the people want to take benefit and see a woman as a commodity. Starting at home they are taught that you are girl you are not supposed to do this, do that, remember your a girl but at the same time ‘ladla beta’ enjoy all the freedom  and nobody taught him how to treat a girl and respect them, crossing all the hurdles in school and college life where they face abuse by same ‘Ladla beta’ and even the people of the age of her father, she enters into working life, here also so-called intelligent and most respected people harass them on the name of work, progress, high pay, promotion fulfill their dirty desire.

violence doesn’t mean only physical but mental harassment, emotional harassment any kind of misbehavior that harms her dignity.

What to do??

School at home: Now the time is that we want to see our girl child flying in the sky like a bird but she can’t do it as freely as a bird because the many people are ready with their gun to kill the dream of the bird to fly high so to escape from them she must have the knowledge to understand about the intention of the person. They are taught about good touch bad touch, sex education, what to do in such cases, how to report to authority immediately, never ignore such event.

Not only girl child we need to teach our ladla beta also because if they understand how to treat a girl child to maintain her dignity violence will not happen. They must be taught to respect every woman in society. Respecting a girl should be in their DNA.

Legal Mechanism:  Our system needs to be strengthened and reporting of the cases should be fast and timely action should be taken. ‘Justice delayed is justice denied’.  This is the pillar to create deterrence and justice for the victim. There are many laws in the country like Domestic violence Act, POSCO Act and many more, the need to just follow and implement them properly.

The problem is very worrisome and creates a dent in our society which never be repaired. How we travel our path when the driving wheel is not moving because we apply a lot of friction to the wheel. To reach the destination and progress as a family, society, state, and nation we need to remove all the barriers from the way so that road becomes smooth. It is not just one day exercise we should take a pledge to remove all forms of violence starting from killing girl foeticide to dowery death. Government is doing its part by making laws like ‘Beti bachao- Beti phadao’ but we as responsible citizens need to do more,

The girls should also need to understand what is good and bad for them they should also understand the real situation just blaming others will not work, what matters is your protection so you should do it by your self and never do what harms your dignity and respect of your family.

Respect woman. Your past is woman, your present is woman, and your future lies in woman. Stop all the ill activities. Change is the need- Ladka ladki ek saman.

Be the change what you want

Sexual violence against women and girls is rooted in centuries of male domination. Let us not forget that the gender inequalities that fuel rape culture are essentially a question of power imbalances, need to think about this and educate people to ground level

Do You think Govt is doing enough ? Now its high time for Govt to actively Interfere in issue and make as strict law as possible ,govt need to develop the fear of punishment in minds as beti bachcho aur beti padhao is just a solgan we indians are made of “thick Skin”.

I was going through a debate today…there was a point that 95 of the 100 cases were not registered because of the legal issue and harassment of family and victim thereafter.other is the average time for a rape case to resolve 7-10 years. So how can you create deterrence?
The juvenile which released in nirbhya case where is he? NO one knows.
It was suggested by justice J.S. Verma to create a sex offender directory so that they can be recognized even after release and during the proceedings.

I would like to quote The Then CJI of 1990 ” A murderer destroy the body of the victim but a rapist destroy the soul”
